My Valentines Day investment

In 2008, 2009, and 2010, I had this idea that I wanted to start making all Holidays more fun and special for the kids. I am really not into Holidays much but I wanted to try and step it up a little to make them even better for the kids.

Sure we celebrated the Holidays just fine, but usually only made Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas special. The other Holidays were always just...
I guess.... 2nd rate.

So I tried to start gathering ideas for ways to make all of the Holidays in Jan-Sept. more fun and special.  Starting with Valentines Day.

Valentines Day is a tough one, the school age kids have a party at school. So that already makes it fun for them. They get candy and valentines, cute little erasers and pencils from their class mates. All good stuff of course. However I felt like I was not making it special enough at home. I wanted something to really WOW them and make them feel like it was a fun day. Something that would become a regular yearly tradition.

I had seen various ideas but was most enthralled by these Valentines Day chairbackers from Pottery Barn Kids, however every single time I tried to buy them.....they were SOLD OUT!!  AGGHH!!  So in place of these cool chairbackers I bought various cutesy things from Oriental Trading...like these mailboxes that you add gems and stickers too.

example

OK so the way I found out about them was from Jon and Kate Plus 8, don't laugh.
She and I happen to share a lot of the same taste in items for kids....
OK well you can laugh but....I don't care. I may not agree with all of Kate's ways but, I think she was not in the wrong on most of the ways she treated Jon. He was a big immature baby who was NOT pulling his weight when it came to caring for the kids. She got testy with him and voiced her feelings a few times by getting huffy. She should have tried harder to keep THAT off camera but hindsight is 20/20..right? You have to admit as harsh as she was, he was a big slacker and did not pull his weight. It really sucks when you have a bunch of little kids and you are out in public....trying to keep them in line....trying to keep track of them.....trying to make sure they have a good time.....trying not to get overwhelmed......and you end up doing 99% of the work trying to do all of that. You tend to get frustrated and could get huffy if things do not turn around. Well that is exactly what she did...she had to keep nagging him to pull his weight and he did not so she blew up. Anyone would. There is only so much crap a person can take before they loose their cool and become an a$$.

Well to be honest, the mailboxes from Oriental trading sucked. They were flimsy and barely could hold any goodies at all. FAIL.

So in 2008, 2009, and 2010 we tried various items from Oriental Trading and Target...
nothing ever really standing out as something special to make Valentines Day special.

Not to me at least....

I just wanted something simple and cool to put all of the Valentines Day goodies in!!!  Is that so much to ask???

I realize it is a cheesy consumer driven Hallmark Holiday but let's face it. Kids like that crap. They want to participate and they want to get goodies.

So last week I realized. OH CRAP, the 2011 Holidays (cheesy or not) are vastly approaching! So I started looking for ideas online. I had given up on the idea of the chairbackers but thought OH what the heck and went to the Pottery Barn Kids website.
THOSE LITTLE STINKERS WERE THERE AND NOT SOLD OUT YET!!
ABOUT DARN TIME!!!!!!!!!!

I HATED the price but thought OH WHATEVER and bought them!!!
They have really good reviews that claim they are very well made, very sturdy, etc.
So I expect they will last for many years. I plan to keep them in a rubbermaid storage container after every Valentines Day. That should ensure that they last for many years!

Holy cow am I glad I did because THEY ARE NOW SOLD OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Geez Louise those stinkers are popular or something!!!

I only bought them for my Twins and then 2 days later as much as the price killed me, I bought the other 3 for my older 3 kids. It's is a good thing that I did because as of today they are GONE fron the website!!!

So without further ado........ The Valentines Day Chairbackers in all their glory.

The ones for my 3 older kids are still on their way in the mail.
Now I just need to buy some goodies to fill them all!

birthday party planning

I have been thinking that I need to at least get some ideas in line for my Twins 3rd birthday. They will be 3 on April 21st, but before their birthday both of their sisters will have a birthday. Their sister Mackenna has her birthday in February. Their sister Haley has her birthday in early April.

So since party planning can be quite exhausting sometimes, I try to get a head start.

This year might be tough though, They have favorites this time!!

I thought about just skipping the party and going to a theme park, though that may be even more exhausting.

I think we will probably just have another party at the park, it has worked out pretty well in the past.

Now the tough decision is which of their favorite cartoons to theme the party after.

Barney?  Mickey Mouse?  Sponge Bob?

The hardest part is planning what to do, what food to serve, and such.
None of their friends are really their age. The children they spend the most time with will just be turning 2 around the time of their birthday. I don't know that there will be any 3 year olds at their party, besides them.

I think I would like to get a pinata, but does a pinata really work out well for 3 year olds? I saw a blog today with a set of Twins 3td birthday and they had a pinata. It was quite large too! I wondered if the pinata had to be broken open by an older child or parent possibly?

I think I have a few good ideas for the goody bags this year...just simple items.
So far I came up with pez dispensers, stickers, play-doh, dum-dum pops, & crayons.

I was hoping to come up with a good location but I might have to go with old stand-by...a park that is not far from here.

This blog has a pretty cute set up for their Twins 3rd birthday, I wonder if all of that candy was a good idea though. Who knows, maybe it was a good idea.

Oh well, wish me luck. I hope I can get a good game plan together to set into motion.

Why Life with Twins and Multiples??

We just received out first nasty comment. *giggle*

No biggie...but since our negative Nancy had to comment, I guess I will clear up her question.

She asked and I quote:

So I just have to ask, why do you call your blog, "Life with Twins and Multiples"? Twins ARE multiples; whenever I hear someone mention "twins and multiples," to be honest it sounds like they don't know what they're talking about and think that "multiples" refers to triplets and higher.

Well that is an EASY question to answer!! This blog is written by several Moms.

Some of the Moms have Twins, some have Triplets, some have Quads. Not all have written yet, some are new, some have been with us for a while. Most of the posts are written by myself, a Twin Mom. However if this blog was solely written by me, I would not call it Life with Twins and Multiples. I'd come up with some other fancy schmancy name that recolved around my own Twins names most likely.

Since this blog is not all about my Twins and not all about Twins, I named it Life with Twins and Multiples, explaining that this blog is about Mothers and their lives with their Twins....or in some cases if the author has Triplets or Higher......Multiples.
Kind of almost a hybrid of a title in a way.

IN most cases, with the Mothers of Multiples that I know.....Triplets or higher order multiples are referered to as Multiples and usually Twins are just, well... Twins.
This is just how it is in my circle of Mom of Multiples friends.

anyhow thanks for asking, Nancy.  :)

Some of our readers agree.....

I agree as a mom of Twins, I see moms with "Multiples" to be moms who had trips, quads, etc. whether it's the correct term or not it's like slang in the "multiples" world. In fact nurses in the NICU used it the same way as well. Not to mention can be used to describe a mom with SETS of twins. I thought all moms of multiples knew that? ;)

I've written a couple of times (one of my resolutions is to try to write more now that my kids are older!) but I also don't think of my twins as 'multiples', I've always associated that with trips and up. Technically I know that isn't correct, but "Twins and Multiples" takes up a lot less space and rolls off the tongue much easier than the title "Twins and HIGHER ORDER Multiples". :-)

Play-doh, better at 2.5 than at 2

I decided to try out play-doh again. It was ok at age 2 but 2.5 is way better! They are having a lot of fun with it and doing really well with it too!

We bought the play-dog duffel bag and it is a lot of fun. Graham has been teaching Parker how to use the play-doh scissors. He is really into play-doh now.

Even when Parker grows tired of it and wants to move on to something else, Graham is still playing with the play-doh happily.  :)

I think we will get one of the fun play-doh sets in April. They turn 3 on April 21st!

They play together really well with this set!!

I made a funny play-doh lady, or as Graham calls women...a  lady-man.  lol

Six from the past

I no longer use my personal blog but I still have it open.
I was just looking at it and thought it would be kind neat to re-post a few memorable posts!

:)

Rad Crop Circles in my neighbors yard

While on a choo choo wagon walk today,
I noticed the neighbors yard looking rather peculiar.

It appears that the neighbors have a rainbow-esque crop circle (or more like half circle) in their yard!  I realize this was not an alien invasion but it looks pretty funny!!

In the pic you can see what the recent
freezes have done to many Central Florida yards.

Parker in the front seat looking repulsed by something in a neighbors yard.
Graham just hanging out in the 2nd seat.  No friends along today.

We heart your Blog 1/2/11

We think these blog are pretty awesome, check them out!!
